Here you will find a collection of information on the issue of Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender (LGBT) youth suicide. As an advocate for the LGBT Community and a student at California State University Monterey Bay, I have researched throughout this semester and compiled all of my work into this portfolio. You can read more about me in the “About Me” tab above, as well as explore the different documents, blogs and resources using the tabs at the top of the page. As you may know youth suicide is a real problem in American Society today. According to the Center for Disease Control, “for youth between the ages of 10 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death.” Fortunately, efforts have been made to reduce the numbers of suicide attempts by creating support for the youth of our communities and getting them treatment and counseling to work through whatever issue has brought them to want to take their own life. Unfortunately this support is not always extended to all members of the community, especially LGBT youth, due to discrimination and the stigma of today’s society. I hope you find this site to be helpful in exploring more on the topic and over-viewing the work I have done throughout this semester in my writing class for Collaborative Health and Human Services at CSUMB.
